Tsunenori Aoki joined Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 1999. He is currently Senior Deputy Director of Human Develop Department in Tokyo where his portfolio covers universal health coverage, global health security, health systems strengthening, and health sector development projects in Africa, Middle East, and Latin America. From 2014 to 2017, he served as a Policy Advisor to the Ghana Health Service, tasked with the role to promote policies and programs on UHC, community health, maternal and child health, and health information. From 2011 to 2014, he worked as a Deputy Director of Human Development Department for promoting partnership with the World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Global Health Workforce Alliance, and global health communities. From 2003 to 2005, he had a position of Project Formulation Advisor to the Ministry of Health in Myanmar to support the national programs on EPI, HIV/ADS, TB, malaria, leprosy and maternal and child health. He has 8 years’ experience of health sector project management in technical, grant, and loan assistance for over 30 lower and middle income countries. He holds a MPH from Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp, Belgium and a BA in Social Sciences from Waseda University, Japan.
